One pound down, many more to go

I’m a college student and like the rest of the nation, I am trying to lose weight.

I am 5’8 and 192 pounds. I have weighed this much for the last 5 years and I am determined to shed some pounds.

Last weekend, I discovered My Fitness Pal. That has helped me keep track of what I eat and it makes me want to challenge myself to eat healthier. I also found a knock-off brand of Slim-Fast at Wal-Mart. I was able to get a six pack for $5. That provides lunch for me for an entire week. I would easily spend more than $5 for one lunch at the university and that meal would not have been a healthy choice.

In the last four days, I have been drinking more water, snacking less and having that cheap slim-fast for lunch. I’m down one pound in four days. Even though it hasn’t been a week yet, I feel good because I have found a plan that I can stick with.

I have the same breakfast each morning: 2 eggs sunnyside up, a piece of whole wheat bread with laughing cow cheese and a grapefruit. Altogether, breakfast is about 430 calories.

Lunch is spread out between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. At 10 a.m., I eat a granola bar or a piece of fruit. At noon, I drink the knock-off Slim-Fast. Finally at 2, I eat a granola bar or a piece of fruit. This has worked for me because I have been able to stay filled enough during the day to not crave midday snacks.

Dinner is not planned out. I always have enough calories left to have the freedom of not limiting myself at the end of the day.

There is usually room for dessert. I usually have chocolate.

Water is really important, drinking the 8 glasses a day helps cut down wanting to snack.

This is just the beginning, but there will be updates on what is working and what isn’t working.
